Mergers, Acquisitions & Rebrandings
  • Gold Resource Corporation (GORO), a gold and silver producer, developer and explorer based out of Denver, Colorado, to merge with Canada-based Goldgroup Mining. (2026)
  • New Gold (TSX: NYSE American: NGD) was acquired by Coeur Mining, Inc. (NYSE, TSX: CDE). (finalized  March 2026)
  • Sandstorm Gold (SAND) was  acquired by Royal Gold, Inc. (RGLD) for approx. US$3.5 billion. The merger closed on October 20, 2025
  • Silvercrest Metals (formerly trading as SVLC/SILV) was acquired by Coeur Mining (CDE) in a $1.7 billion all-stock transaction that closed on February 14, 2025.
  • Yamana Gold (AUY) was acquired and split up in March 2023 in a nearly US$4.8 billion transaction. The Canadian mining company was jointly taken over by Pan American Silver (PAAS) and Agnico Eagle (AEM).
  • Kirkland Lake Gold (KL), based in Toronto, owned and operated several gold mines in Canada and Australia. In February 2022, it merged with Agnico Eagle Mines (AEM) in an all-stock deal with Kirkland's stocks being delisted.
  • Golden Star Resources (GSS) was acquired by the Chinese mining firm Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining in January 2022.
  • Gold Standard Ventures Corp. (GSV) was acquired by Orla Mining Ltd. (ORLA) in August 2022 and delisted from the TSX and NYSE American exchanges. 
  • Corvus Gold (KOR) acquired by AngloGold Ashanti (AU). (? 7/2021)
  • Asanko Gold (AKG ) is now known as Galiano Gold Inc., trading on the NYSE American under the ticker GAU (and on the TSX as GAU). The company officially changed its name in April 2020 to better reflect its broader operations.
  • Rubicon Minerals (RBY) rebranded to Battle North Gold Corporation in 2020. Battle North was subsequently acquired by Australian-based gold miner Evolution Mining in 2021.
  • Tanzanian Gold Corporation (TRX) and changed its name to TRX Gold Corporation. (2019)
  • Goldcorp (GG) was acquired by Newmont Mining (NEM) for $10 bln. (Jan 2019)
  • Randgold Resources Limited (Nasdaq:GOLD), headquartered in the Channel Islands, was acquired by Barrick Gold (ABX) for $18.3B (Sept 2018). Barrick's trading symbol on the NYSE was changed to GOLD.   In May 2025, the company officially rebranded to Barrick Mining Corporation to better reflect its diversification into copper and other metals. Its NYSE ticker changed from 'GOLD' to 'B'.
  • Primero Mining Corp. (PPP) was acquired by First Majestic Silver Corp. (AG) in 2018, 
  • Nevsun Resources (NSU) was acquired by Zijin Mining in late 2018 and subsequently delisted from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: NSU) and the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: NSU).
  • Banro Corporation (BAA) was a  Canada-based gold miner with operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It filed for bankruptcy protection in Canada and was delisted in 2017.
  • Sibanye Gold (SBGL) changed its name to Sibanye-Stillwater in 2017 following its acquisition of the US-based Stillwater Mining Company. It changed its NYSE ticker symbol from SBGL to SBSW to highlight new corporate structure and diversified asset mix. (Feb. 2020)
  • Timmins Gold Corp. (TGD) was renamed Alio Gold Inc. (ALO)  in May 2017.  It was then acquired  by Argonaut Gold Inc. on July 1, 2020.  Argonaut Gold Inc. was acquired by Alamos Gold (AG) in 2024.
  • Lake Shore Gold (LSG) was acquired by Tahoe Resources Inc. in a business combination valued at approximately $945 million (April  2016).
  • AuRico Gold (AUQ) was a Canadian intermediate gold producer that operated primarily in North America (including Canada and Mexico). The company was acquired by Alamos Gold (AGI) in a US$1.5 billion merger of equals in July 2015.
  • Allied Nevada Gold Corp. (NYSE:ANV) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2015. The company reorganized, emerged as a privately held entity (later operating as Hycroft Mining Corporation), 
  • Brigus Gold Corp (BRD) was acquired by Primero Mining Corp for approx. $220 million. (March 2014)
