Gold mining stocks fall to a 25-year low vs market

Gold mining stocks look like “lost treasure” after years of relative weakness, according to Frank Holmes, U.S. Global Investors Inc.’s chief executive officer. Holmes, whose firm runs two mutual funds that focus on miners, wrote about the industry’s prospects Monday in a blog post. He cited the ratio between the FTSE Gold Mines Index, tracking companies worldwide, and the S&P 500 Index. The indicator dropped last month to its lowest reading in more than 25 years, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
